Description
After obtaining a doctorate in private international and comparative law (1976), Dr Bernd Reinmüller studied comparative law for a year and a half with Professor René David at the university of Aix-en-Provence.
On his return to Germany, he completed his traineeship, worked at Deutsche Bank Investment Banking and passed his bar exam (1979).
He then worked as an associate for two years at Baker Mackenzie in Frankfurt, before returning to Paris for a year and a half as an assistant lecturer at the Institute of Comparative Law, university of Paris II Assas.
In 1981, Dr Bernd Reinmüller became a partner at Bauer, Heberer, Gronen in Frankfurt (later Heberer Reinmüller & Partner). Over the years, he has specialised in national and international civil and business litigation, as well as advising and assisting on corporate restructuring.
In 1998, he was a founding partner of Buse Heberer Fromm, now one of Germany's largest independent law firms, with over 100 lawyers practising in Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Essen, Frankfurt and Munich.
Since 2000, in addition to his work as a lawyer, Dr Bernd Reinmüller has taught international civil procedure (including European law) and international arbitration at the university of Cologne.
In 2008, he was awarded the title of Professor (Honorarprofessor) by the university of Cologne.
In the same year, he became President of the International Lawyers Association (UIA), an NGO accredited with the UNO, the Council of Europe and the International Criminal Court. He was appointed Honorary President in 2010.
Dr Bernd Reinmüller is a member of various professional associations, including the Frankfurt Bar Association, the German Lawyers Association (DAV), the German section of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Swiss Bar Association, the Geneva Bar Association and the International Lawyers Association (UIA).
Publications
The author of numerous articles in the German journal, "Internationale Praxis", Dr Bernd Reinmüller published a book in 2009 on international civil and commercial proceedings in the European Union, entitled "Internationale Rechtsverfolgung in Zivil- und Handelssachen in der Europäischen Union" (International litigation in civil and commercial matters in the European Union).
He is also the co-author of the C.H.BECK publications’ "Beck'sches Rechtsanwalt-Handbuch, Auslandfälle" (Beck Lawyer’s handbook – cross-border cases) 11th and 12th editions, 2014 and 2022, and "Internationales Wirtschaftsrecht" (International Business Law), 2016.y
